About CRA

In 1974, Canterbury Association and Greater Canterbury Association consolidated to form Canterbury Area Association for the primary purpose of providing recreation facilities for area residents. This group of individuals brought together 175 families willing to invest $350 each to build a pool and tennis recreation center on approximately 25 acres adjacent to the wetlands of Tuckahoe Creek.

These charter members borrowed $82,500 from a local bank and built the pool and tennis courts. In the summer of 1975, the pool and tennis facilities opened for use. In 1984 and 1985 the association changed its name to Canterbury Recreation Association, Inc. to reflect the wider membership of the pool including many new subdivisions in the area.

The pool includes a diving well with diving board and spiral slide. The facility also includes a fenced baby pool with shade awnings; a covered pavilion; ample tables and chairs; a ping pong table; grill for member use; snack bar; bathrooms with changing areas; and six tennis courts (two lighted, one marked with pickleball lines).  Over the years, the membership has continually invested in maintaining and improving the facilities:
